Have you had a chance to watch Beyond the Wheel? It's a half hour show on Speed. Originally, it was a small segment of Nascar Nation and then it was such a hit that they made it have it's own time slot. It's a really cool show. While there is an announcer voice in the back ground it is primarily scanner transmissions between driver and crew chief. Since the show on Thursday is about the previous race you know what happened during the race and now you can hear what happened on the radio frequencies. It's amazing to me to think that scanners haven't really been around all that long. Just how did crew chiefs communicate with their drivers before? That's right! The driver would put his hand out the window and tap on the roof or door of the car and the crew chief would put up a sign board. When I'm at a race I always listen to my scanner but it's hard to catch all the conversations. Beyond the Wheel takes the best (and sometimes the worst) of radio transmissions and puts them in one place. An outstanding show for sure!
